A Child is Born
A child is born in Bethlehem, Emmanuel, a gift of God.
For him we give thanks and we pray, "May justice reign throughout the
world."
Within a stable on the straw, his mother suffered through his birth.
And when with joy she heard his cry, his mother prayed for peace on earth.
When shepherds heard the angels’ song, they left their
sheep and came to where
The child was safe in Mary’s arms, as Joseph stood guard watching her.
And then three kings came from the East with gifts to honor the new king.
With gold and myrrh and frankincense. What gifts for Jesus might we bring?
The angels sang their hymn of praise, as Joseph watched
and Mary cried.
For she knew she would live to see, the dark hour when her son would die.
O star of wonder, shine once more, drive back the night and help us know
That God brings new life out of death. As from the earth, the flowers grow.
